Taco Bell has delighted fans by announcing they'll be giving away free tacos at all their Australian stores for one week only.

Celebrating International Taco Day, customers can get their hands on a Taco Supreme from Monday, October 4 to Sunday, October 10.

To redeem the offer, customers need to visit a link or scan the unique QR code to auto populate a WhatsApp message, hit 'send' to receive instructions on how to get the free taco.

Taco Bell now has 23 locations across Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and most recently opened its first Western Australia restaurant in Midland Perth.

The celebration is part of the fast food chain's overarching global #ISeeATaco campaign that aims to invite consumers to start noticing the shape of a Taco in everyday life. 

International Taco Day will take place in more than 24 markets across the globe at participating restaurants.

Taco Bell opened its first store in California in 1962 and now has 7,000 sites across the US and serves 2billion customers worldwide.

It opened a branch in Sydney in the early 1980s and in 1997 but withdrew both times.

The restaurant chain returned to Australia in 2017, opening it's first store in Brisbane's Annerley, before unveiling five more stores around Queensland.

With plans to expand further in 2021, Taco Bell is shaking up the Australian fast food scene one taco at a time. 

Restaurant Brands Australia anticipates opening 40 new restaurants across NSW and the ACT over the next four years. 

What is Taco Bell?

Taco Bell opened its first store in California in 1962 and now has more than 7,000 stores worldwide.

The Mexican fast food chain is famous for its bargain burritos, quesadillas and nachos.

The latest restaurants opening up in Australia will be the brand's third attempt to hit the market Down Under.

The chain first opened a branch in Australia in the early 1980s but was forced to shut following a trademark dispute against an existing Sydney restaurant called Taco Bell's Casa.

The American franchise tried again by opening a store in Sydney's CBD in the late 1990s - but by 2005 Taco Bell pulled out of the Australian market again.
