HYDERABAD: Pulling out all the stops to woo EV giant Tesla, Telangana’s industries & IT minister KT Rama Rao has made a direct pitch to the US-based company’s boss Elon Musk offering to help him smooth the way for his drive into India’s youngest state.
“Hey Elon, I am the Industry & Commerce Minister of Telangana state in India. Will be happy to partner Tesla in working through the challenges to set shop in India/Telangana,” KTR tweeted.

“Our state is a champion in sustainability initiatives & a top notch business destination in India,” said KTR, hard-selling Telangana which has been a top draw for marquee US companies such as Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Facebook to name a few.
The proactive Telangana minister’s tweet came in response to Tesla boss Elon Musk’s tweet that the company is “still working through a lot of challenges with the government” in India, which
More recently KTR was in the news for rolling out the red carpet for one of the world’s largest kids apparel makers, Kitex group of Kerala, which went on to announce an investment of Rs 2,400 crore in setting up two integrated fibre to apparel units in Telangana to churn out kids clothes for exports markets.
KTR had not just sent out a Whatsapp message to Kitex group chairman Saboo M Jacob inviting him to visit the state but also dispatched a private jet along with a team from the state industries department to ferry him to Telangana in style.
Needless to say, KTR’s Twitter invitation to the Tesla chief has set the internet on fire with some equating it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s famous SMS invitation in 2008 to Tata boss Ratan Tata to set up the Nano project in Gujarat when Modi was the chief minister and Tata was facing problems in setting up the Nano plant in Singur in West Bengal.
Tesla has been in parleys with the Indian government, which wants the company to set up local manufacturing while the EV maker has been pushing for a reduction in the existing 100% import duties on EVs.
