India added 9,119 new coronavirus infections taking the country's total tally of Covdi-19 cases to 3,45,44,882 while the active cases declined to 1,09,940, the lowest in 537 days, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Thursday.
The death toll climbed to 4,66,980 with 396 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.
The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been below 20,000 for 48 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 151 consecutive days now.
The active cases comprise 0.32 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.33 per cent, the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.
A decrease of 1,541 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

More than 132 crore (1,32,33,15,050) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Govt of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category, whereas more than 22.72Cr (22,72,19,901) balance and unutilized Covid Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.
Moreover with the administration of 90,27,638 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 119.38 crore (1,19,38,44,741) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. This has been achieved through 1,23,73,056sessions.
Meanwhile a study conducted by AIIMS has shown that two doses of Covaxin, the indigenous vaccine developed by Indian Council of Medical Research in collaboration with Bharat Biotech, is 50% effective in preventing symptomatic infection due to Covid-19. This is lower than the 77.8% efficacy claimed by Bharat Biotech after phase 3 trials of the vaccine.
