NEW DELHI: The Army is maintaining high operational readiness to counter any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo along the borders, with additional forces deployed to prevent any “military brinkmanship”, General MM Naravane said on Friday.
“The Army’s response to such attempts has been swift, calibrated and decisive as was seen when the situation so demanded. We have also instituted additional safeguards to prevent any further attempts at military brinkmanship,” said Gen Naravane, in the customary Army Day-eve address amidst the 20-month-long military confrontation with China in eastern Ladakh.
“We believe that differences in perception and disputes are best resolved through established norms based on the principles of equal and mutual security. Our desire for peace is borne out of our inherent strength. It should not be mistaken otherwise,” he added.
On the Pakistan front, the Army chief said institutional mechanisms and safeguards to further counter state-sponsored terrorism have been further strengthened, both along the borders and the hinterland.
“Our actions have demonstrated our capabilities to strike at the source of the terrorism,” he said.
