100 for Shreyas Iyer!
A splendid knock from the 27-year-old. Shreyas Iyer cracks his maiden Test ton in his debut game. A solid knock that has been a perfect mix of caution and aggression. Iyer started Day 2 on 75 and has raced to his maiden Test ton in the morning session on Day 2. Iyer becomes the 10th Indian to score a century on debut in home Tests. Gets to his ton off 157 balls.
Jamieson to Shreyas | FOUR! FOUR!
Shreyas Iyer is looking in a hurry to get to his maiden Test ton. Collects back-to-back boundaries off Kyle Jamieson and moves to 96. A thick-ish outside edge that ran away to the third-man fence and then follows it up with a gorgeous cover drive. Iyer has looked in good touch this morning. IND 280/5 after 89.3 overs.
Jamieson to Shreyas Iyer | FOUR!
Short and wide outside off from Kyle Jamieson and Shreyas Iyer hits the ball behind point to add four more to his and India's total. A boundary from Iyer to end the Jamieson over. Iyer moves to 88. IND 272/5 after 88 overs
Southee to Jadeja | Bowled!
A massive breakthrough for New Zealand early on Day 2. Tim Southee breaks the 121-run partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer. Southee from around the wicket caught Jadeja on the crease. Inside edge and the ball crashes into Jadeja's stumps. Jadeja (50) departs without adding a single run to his overnight score. IND 266/5 after 87 overs
Jamieson to Iyer | FOUR!
A loosener, into the pads first up from Kyle Jamieson and Shreyas Iyer opens his account with a boundary on Day 2. Works the ball off his pads to the mid-wicket fence. IND 262/4 after 85.1 overs
Southee to Jadeja | LBW review from New Zealand| Jadeja survives!
Phewww! That was pretty close. Umpire's call and Ravindra Jadeja gets an early reprieve. It was a cracker of a delivery from Tim Southee from around the wicket. The ball nipped back in sharply and hit Jadeja's back leg. New Zealand took the review but ball tracking confirms that the ball is just clipping the bails. A good decision from umpire Virender Sharma as Jadeja survives a close call! The Kiwis however, retain the review.
Day 2 Session 1 gets underway in Kanpur
Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja resume India innings on Day 2. Tim Southee to start the proceedings for New Zealand. Two slips in place for Southee. Jadeja on strike. Here we go! IND 258/4 after 84 overs
Will Iyer join debutants' ton club?
Southee is all set for Day 2!
Not a huge amount going on. Found some swing early and it was up and down a little bit. Hardly played the last couple of months. Nice to get back onto the park. Hopefully the new ball swings a little bit in the morning and we can get them. India fraction ahead I think. We hung around pretty well. Need a good start in the morning.
Iyer, Jadeja to face new ball challenge from Kiwis!
So, just under 30 minutes to go for the start of Day 2. Shreyas Iyer (75*) and Ravindra Jadeja (50*) have put India in a solid position but the duo, in the morning session on Day 2, will be up against the new ball challenge from the Kiwis. Kane Williamson took the second new ball yesterday and bowled just 4 overs with it. Pacers Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson will be looking to rattle India early at the start today.
The hosts dominated the final session of the game and will now hope to bat the Kiwis out of the game Friday before the pitch becomes more conducive to the spinners.
He hit five fours and a six in his free-flowing innings and was Jamiseon's second, after Agarwal who edged him to wicketkeeper Tom Blundell in the eighth over after a scratchy 13 runs off 28 balls.
Gill, who looked promising at unbeaten 52 off 93 balls going into lunch, could not add to the score and was bowled by Jamieson in the first over after the break.

Iyer shared an unfinished 113-run partnership with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who made a busy 50 off 100 balls, in the heavily polluted industrial city of Kanpur.
Shreyas Iyer's unbeaten 75 on debut steadied India after an afternoon wobble to end the opening day of the first Test looking comfortable at 258-4.
